Thanksgiving week I was blessed with a visit from my bestest girlfriend, Beverly. I saw her in October (for a day) and now we have, yet again, one day to spend together. Life is so weird and strange, especially when it comes to where we end up and/or why. Bottom line is, I live in Arkansas where Beverly grew up, and where her parents still live. And she lives in Delaware, near where I grew up, and near to where my parents still live. So if we come to "see" each other, we are really coming to see our family, and squeezing in a little, albiet guilt-ridden, time to spend with each other.
Now I'm not complaining, really I'm not. But a day +/- is such a tease. We can hardly cover one topic in a day!!! :0)
See, growing up I moved around, which made it difficult for making friends. I was born in Illinois, moved to California when I was 6 months old, two years later to Florida, three years later to Georgia, one year later to Michigan, three years later to Nebraska and we finally landed in Maryland two years after that, which was when I was going into 7th grade. The groups of friends I encountered for the next 6 years had solid friendships in place, and included me in activities. Then when I married and started having a family my friends were finishing their college educations, and dating, and not where I was in life.
But when I was 33 I was blessed to get to know Beverly, and we became fast friends. We had another mutual friend, yet another Carol, and it wasn't soon until we were thick into friendship. This friendship was so real, with no holds-barred, so vulnerable, so fun, so frank and truthful, so heartfelt. . . and so difficult to leave 6 years ago. . . and is still to be so far away.
Even though we remain in touch, it's not quite the same . . . but . . . you never know what life has in store for you . . . so as we keep up our long-distant relationship, and dream of vacationing together, our ultimate goal is to have mansions side-by-side, where our streets will be paved in gold. What a day that will be!!
