Thank you all for your prayers for my dad. It has been 5 days since surgery, and he came home on Saturday (the 2nd day). His legs are so weak from the nerve damage, and not being able to walk well on them during that time, that his main goal now is just to strengthen his legs. He is walking with a walker, and bends way over and shuffles . . . so I remind him to pick up his feet . . . and not to put his walker WAY out in front of him when he walks. The pain killers have had him looped . . . he can barely even keep his eyes open most of the time. So today he has not taken them, but has taken Ibuprofen instead. He was a bit more alert . . . but by the next day or so I hope they have worked their way out of his body more. He is taking them to sleep at night, tonight, and again, I hope they can get out of his system so he can have an alert day tomorrow.
Today was a beautiful sunny day, in the low 60's, so we spent some time sitting on the front deck. He got up and walked across the deck, and back several times. He is supposed to get up and walk every hour, and he's done quite religious in doing that. He enjoyed being out in the breeze and the sunshine. There was a Mockingbird serenading us as we were sitting there, and it made for a lovely time.
Jonathan and Stephanie (his girlfriend) came over this afternoon . . . I bought them hair clippers, so Steph can keep his hair cut for him, so she cut his hair while they were here. This evening Jon, Steph and I went to Don Pablo Restaurant in Laurel . . . YUM! Stephanie was offered a new job today as a Sales Rep for Aflac insurance. She is very pumped about that! Jon has a party tomorrow night, and they are hoping to have a good crowd. For those of you who don't know, Jon is a "party planner", he and his business partner have an exclusive DJ, and they have a venue they rent out in Baltimore for parties . . . perhaps more like Raves. Anyway, his business was going superbly until he encountered an injury in May. He is now hoping to get his business calendar filled with events, but realistically he knows it will take some time. Anyway, we had a great time together.
Tomorrow is another day, and I can't wait to spend it with my best friend, Beverly!! And hopefully dad will have a great day recovering, and mom can get some rest (is that truly a word in her vocabulary? I think not!).
Glad to hear your dad is doing well and that you are able to spend time with friends and family while you are in town. Thanks again for that outfit for Brooke. It is so cute, we love it!
ReplyDeleteI talked to dad yesterday and heard the "shuffling" up and down the house was going well. Hope he continues to improve and gets better soon!
