I received a gift yesterday!!!!

We are all too familiar with the phrase "some of the best gifts in life are free".  Yesterday I was delighted to receive one of those gifts.  Yet again, I had squirrels trying to eat up all my birdseed . . . so I got Oreo all revved up, and opened the back door with him barking and running back and forth on the deck, and I was clapping as loud as I can, telling the little critters they were taking their lives into their own hands, and they'd better be glad Karl wasn't seated at the dining room table with his gun at his side.  As I  got Oreo back in, and got ready to close the door, I looked out through the now barren woods, and thought I saw yet another log (from last winter's ice storm) down on the ground.  As I moved to the side for a closer view I realized it wasn't a log, but a deer!  A beautiful doe . . . just bedded down in "Our" woods . . . near the house.   To my delight, as I looked around, I realized I was only seeing part of the gift!  At about six feet to the left of her was yet another doe . . . and at about six feet to the right of her was a third doe.  Oh, glorious day.  Here in the midst of hunting season "our does" know they have found a spot of safety and refuge in our back "yard".  Even if it is only for today . . . that was my "God sign" . . . a sign that he is with me, and wants me to enjoy his nature, even on a day when my mind is full of grief from another issue in my life.  My good fortune, for sure.  Ahhhh, thank you Heavenly Father, for your gift!!

  1. I am so glad I had a minute to catch up! I love your woods and the deer must have been so neat to watch. Luckily Oreo's talents lie in scaring squirrels and the deer were safe!

Life seems to be going 100 mph around here. But we did chop our tree down yesterday and I have a goal to get it up by this Saturday evening! The nice thing about chopping the tree was it was FREE! Can't beat that. We have been unpacking the last of our moving boxes, which happen to be all of Christmas, slowly uncovering everything. Since we were in the hotel last year, it has been so fun to get out our "treasures" from 2 years ago! My how time has changed a lot of everything.

Yes, these birthdays over the last 2 months of the year do make for more of the season...And an apology, I totally forgot your birthday...again! I am afraid birthdays are not my strong suit. Just ask all my 5 nieces and nephews with September birthdays who got their cards at HALLOWEEN!

Enjoy the deer and the decorations! I too love to gaze at the lit and decorated tree.

  2. I love when things like that happen. I think it's great that dad shoots all those sqirrells, too. Blake wishes he could be there to join him!
