Bad news / Good News

The beginning of June brought with it some bad news for Cristyane and Donald. Their landlord's farmette was going into forclosure, and they had to be out by the middle of the month. Donald had just begun working for U.S. Xpress trucking company, and so his work would not be affected. And Cristyane had been enjoying being a stay-at-home mom, as well as "manager" of the farmette.

The good news is, after much thought, Cristyane and Donald decided they would like to move to Arkansas!!!! (be still my beating heart . . . )So - on to Craigslist we went - and immeditely found a small farm for rent in Springdale, complete with a barn which had room for the chickens, and the possibility of more animals in the future. There was plenty of room for them to have a good vegetable garden in the back half - so that fit with their plans as well. The house, though it is rather humble, was slightly larger than what they had in NC, and was very much like the home they had there, so it fit their needs well.

So . . . over a long weekend in the middle of June, Don parked his truck at our nearest Truck Stop in Greenland, AR (15 minutes from our house) and he, Matthew and I drove to NC. Well, if truth be told, Donald did most if not all the driving. We drove the 16 hours in one day, and early the next morning we went to get the truck, and began loading it. Fortunately, Cristyane had begun packing, and had taken most of everything she packed out to the garage, so only the last bit in the house had to be packed and marked. Don's mother lived close by, so she came over and was a huge help on moving day! She made up for what I could not physically do. I tried to help watch and entertain Trinity for most of the day . . . that was my contribution, besides packing a few boxes.

After an exhausting day, we all drove about 4 hours, and stopped for some rest in the parking lot of a closed gas station, for about 4 hours. Cristyane had two cats and 5 dogs in her car; I had Trinity and the 12+/- chickens who were making the move. Donald and Matthew drove the truck.

With a small amount of sleep, we started driving early in the morning, and arrived at their new house by late evening. All that had to be done yet was all the unpacking!

  2. 12 chickens!!! I once took 4 from UT to WY and man did they stink. Hope you got an air freshener after you dropped those guys off ;-) Sounds like things are working out well. Keep us posted. (I'd like to hear how 5 dogs did!).
